Chris LeDoux - Hippies In Calgary

Well a few years backMe and ol' John worked the Calgary rodeoWe were hangin' around town with nothing to doAnd nowhere else to goAnd cowboys are known for their fun loving waysPranks and practical jokesAnd I'll never forget the night we impressedA bunch of them Calgary folksWell just down the hall in the ole hotelWhere me and old John stayedWere some school marmsThey'd come up from DallasTo party for a couple of daysNow these old gals was fancy dressersThey had wigs and beads and allSo we put on my hair and took off our bootsAnd boogied on down the hallWell you could never tell we were cowboysWe were real lookin' hippies by heckWith long hair, bare feet and old t-shirtsAnd beads around our necksAnd sure we just had to show someoneSo we boogied on down to the loungeThere was cowboys and gents in nice old suitsAnd ladies in long evening gownsWell we found us a table and pulled out a chairAnd lit up some Bull Durham smokesThe smoke filled the air, everyone thereThought these hippies were smokin' dopeNow Leonard and Cravy and old Ronnie RoselandWere sitting two tables awaySo we did what we thought that hippies would doWhen we noticed them lookin' our wayWell we waved our long hair and rolled back our eyesAnd sucked in them home made smokesSayin' stuff like cool and ya, man wowWe put on one heck of a showNow Ronnie and Lenard, they'd been there a whileAnd they wasn't feelin' much painNow reckon they figured they'd have some funWith these two hippie freaks that walked inWell the bar got deathly quietAs those cowboys come our wayAnd those city folks knew it wouldn't be longTill the battle got under wayNow Ronnie he came right over to meAnd he looked me right square in the eyeHe said, "Hey there boy, whats that stuff you're smokin'"I said, "Here man give it a try"Well that didn't make him too happyAnd then when I told him to bug outHe blinked and snorted like a mad brahamer bullAnd frolicked and foamed at the mouthWell just about then, I looked at old JohnAnd his face had turned a beat red'Cause Leonard had grabbed him right by the throatWith plans to tear off his headNow Ronnie reached out with a huge left handAnd grabbed a hold of my hairWith his right fist cocked, he said now boyYou better start sayin' your prayersWell he gave the yank and my wig come offAnd lay limp there across his handThe most stupefied look I've never seenOn the face of any manWell he dropped the thing like a poisonous snakeAnd stared at it there on the floorThen he looked up at me and saw who I wasAnd he laughed, he gave out a roarWell this story doesn't have any moralIt was just one mighty good gagBut I sighed with relief Ronnie didn't swing firstBefore he pulled off my wig
