Helen Love - Teenage Soap Opera

The 5 o'clock alarm and your mother's downstairs
The radio's on as she's cleaning round the chairs
Got to get ready for the bus at eight
She's on a final written warning so she can't be late
You better get yourself off to school now
Or you won't get there at all

You're starring in a
Teenage heartbreak soap opera

Your brother's in the mirror counting spots again
He used to have 25, now he's got 10
You can't find your books and your homework's late
And the vitamins your mother left, you forgot to take
You left your coat by the back door
And the cat slept in it all night
And your best friend texted to tell you
That you're going to get in a fight

You're starring in a
Teenage heartbreak soap opera
A tale of loss and how the world forgot you
A teenage heartbreak soap opera
A standing ovation picking up an Oscar

There's cellotape marks on your bedroom wall
From the pictures you made when you were small
Your computer still runs on Windows 98
And your dad don't care because he thinks it's great

School's out early cos the heating's gone down
You can't go home so you go to town
Looking at the faces of the people so sad
Hoping that your life won't turn out that bad
You're running out of expectations
They were never even really high
And you're looking for an explanation
For the way that you feel inside

You're starring in a
Teenage heartbreak soap opera
A tale of loss and how the world forgot you
A teenage heartbreak soap opera
A standing ovation picking up an Oscar
